Deadline: 07-Jun-2025
The University of Antwerp is a dynamic, forward-thinking, European university. They offer an innovative academic education to more than 20000 students, conduct pioneering scientific research and play an important service-providing role in society. They are one of the largest, most international and most innovative employers in the region. With more than 6000 employees from 100 different countries, they are helping to build tomorrow's world every day. Through top scientific research, they push back boundaries and set a course for the future – a future that you can help to shape.
The Department of Molecular Imaging, Pathology, Radiotherapy & Oncology (MIPRO) in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (in collaboration with VITO) is looking for a full time doctoral scholarship holder in the field of pathology and proteomics.
You will work actively on the preparation and defence of a PhD thesis in the field of Medical Sciences. More specific, you will work on the validation of predictive peptide biomarkers to classify non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients based on their response to immune checkpoint inhibitor therapy. You will work both at the pathology department of Antwerp University Hospital (UZA), where you will be responsible for the inclusion of the patient samples, and the UAntwerpen Centre for Proteomics, where you will analyse lung biopsies using mass spectrometry imaging. The imaging data, together with all other relevant clinical and omics data, will serve as input to generate a statistical prediction model, that will be built together with the bioinformatics team.
You will publish scientific articles related to the research project, disseminate your results to the scientific community and the larger public via meetings and conferences.
